Lake Sammamish - a WILDLIFE WONDERLAND!

As I launched my kayak from Lake Sammamish State Park’s boat ramp, I was immediately surrounded by the serene beauty of this 531-acre day-use park. The location, just 15 miles east of Seattle, is a hidden gem for outdoor enthusiasts. The abundance of wildlife here is awe-inspiring. As I paddled along the shoreline, I spotted painted turtles basking on logs, their colorful markings contrasting with the tranquil water. A beaver lodge stood proudly near the shore, a testament to the park’s thriving ecosystem. Huge fish darted through the shallows, their silver scales glinting in the sunlight. Venturing up Issaquah Creek, I encountered a young deer sipping from the river, its reflection mirroring in the water. The creek led me past Sunset Beach, where families played in the sand, and Tibbetts Beach, a perfect spot for beginners to rent kayaks and explore. Paddling further up Tibbetts Creek, I marveled at the birdlife—eagles soaring overhead, herons wading gracefully, and kingfishers darting like electric blue flashes. Ducks bobbed along the water’s edge, adding to the symphony of nature. As I returned to the boat launch, I couldn’t help but agree: Lake Sammamish State Park offers one of the best lake kayaking experiences in the Pacific Northwest. Its wildlife-rich waters and scenic beauty make it a must-visit for any outdoor adventurer.
